Affogato

I can’t think of a quicker way to get a little indulgence than this simple dessert – Affogato. This Italian treat’s full name is Affogato al Café (drowned in coffee) and it consists of a scoop of ice cream and a shot of espresso or very strong brewed coffee poured over the top.

Affogato

I saw this on Nigella Lawson’s TV show, and since I don’t have an espresso machine, I made mine with strong coffee, the regular type. You can also add a shot of Kahlua or Baileys and you have a great light dessert for your next dinner party.

For regular coffee, you add 1 tablespoon for each 6 oz (1 cup) of water. To make Affogato, go for 1½ to 2 tablespoons of coffee for each 6 oz (1 cup) of water to get a strong brew.
