Beer and food have long gone together. Beer has been used in cooking for as long as wine has. With such a wide variety of beers out there, it’s no surprise that beer can be such a versatile ingredient in the kitchen.

Pork Chops with Dark Beer Sauce & Apples

A Foodies’ Kitchen Original Recipe
Serves 4

Ingredients:
4 pork chops
2 granny smith apples (you can add 1 more apple if you want extra fuit for each plate)
1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
2 shallots, finely chopped
1 can dark beer ( look for a sweet tasting beer, rather than a bitter tasting one)
½ teaspoon powdered thyme
Salt and pepper to taste

Procedure:

  1. Cut the apples into wedges, leave the skin on. Place them in a medium sized bowl and add the grated ginger. Toss to mix.
  2. Salt and pepper the pork chops, and cook them on a hot pan. About 4 min per side. Set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add the chopped shallots and brown them, then add the apples, and beer. Let this mixture simmer for about 30 min. It will thicken a little.
  4. Return the pork chops to the pan, add the powdered thyme. Cover the pan and let cook for about 10 minutes more. Adjust the seasoning.
  5. Serve with mashed potatoes.
