Mint Limeade

One of our staples at home is to avoid instant beverages, and choose natural options instead. In Guatemala, there isn’t a home that doesn’t love limeade. Some prepare it by simply squeezing the lime juice, add water and sugar. We love to do it with simple syrup, as it gives the limeade a softer sweet flavor and… no excessive whisking to dissolve the sugar granules.

Add equal parts of sugar and water to a small pot, and let it come to a slow boil. You can even infuse your simple syrup with many things, such as fresh basil, lavender, vanilla, or mint leaves. The added flavor in the syrup instantly gives this classic beverage a new and interesting twist.

To dress it up, we cut thin lime slices to add to our pitcher, and cut small watermelon wedges. The combination of colors makes this beverage perfect to serve for a summer picnic.

At Almacenes Siman, we found just what we needed to serve our beverage: A glass pitcher with matching glasses, which had the perfect size for this recipe… but what we loved was its shape, when you pour the limeade, it makes it easy to serve without sending all the lime slices into the first glass. And it looks so pretty!

We also used a white tray to serve it in. Sometimes a simple piece like a tray can be dressed up with your favorite placemat or kitchen towel to give it a pop of color. We used a light cerulean blue placemat to add some color and make the limeade pop with the watermelon wedges. All around, you have a great selection of products at Siman to choose from, so you can set up your limeade tray perfect for summer!

In case you missed it, we are running a contest with Almacenes Siman over at our Facebook Page! Check the link and enter. We have a set of JosephJoseph measuring cups and spoons, as well as a lovely Pedrini nonstick square pan for grabs! Click here for more info. The contest is only valid in Guatemala.

Mint Limeade

Recipe adapted from How Sweet It Is
Yield: 1 large pitcher, 4 to 6 servings

Ingredients:
2 cup water
2 cup sugar
1 bunch of fresh mint leaves
2 ¾ cup freshly squeezed lime juice
6-7 cups water
fresh mint leaves for garnish
thin lime slices for garnish
watermelon wedges and ice for serving

Directions:

  1. First, prepare the simple syrup. Add 2 cups of water, sugar and the bunch of mint leaves to a small pot over medium heat.
  2. Whisk until the sugar dissolves and it comes to a boil. Let it boil for a minute, remove from heat and let it cool completely. Remove the mint leaves.
  3. Add everything to your pitcher: simple syrup, water and lime juice. Add the extra mint leaves for garnish and extra flavor!
  4. Refrigerate for an hour or two. Stir before serving and pour over ice. Add the lime slices just before serving, to avoid a bitter taste.
  5. Garnish with mint and watermelon wedges.
