Foodies Freebie: January 2015 Wallpaper Collection

Happy New Year! How are you all doing? Did you enjoy your holidays? We hope you did and took advantage of the kind of long weekend, family gatherings, friends coming from out-of-town… We caught up with many friends. It was tough to see 2014  go, but we are welcoming 2015 with open arms. This past year we’ve done so much, and with the new year, we will be continuing our efforts here at The Foodies’ Kitchen. As usual, we have our January 2015 Wallpaper Collection, and next week we are sending our newsletter Notes from The Foodies’ Kitchen.

On New Years, Kitty made a no-flour (hence gluten-free!) Chocolate Cake, a recipe we will share soon! It was a little scary baking without flour, but the cake was perfect!  We have some great recipes lined up for this month, but we would love to know what you want us to be cooking and baking. Comment right here, reach us through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram… or email.

For this months’ wallpaper collection, we feature strawberries. We love them! Specially in early morning smoothies to get our mornings going, like this Strawberry Mango Smoothie or this Strawberry-Grapefruit Smoothie.

So here you go, below you can download the last freebie calendars of the year, for your desktop, laptop, tablet or phone.  We hope you enjoy them!

Foodies Freebie: May 2013 Wallpaper Collection

Can you believe it’s May already? We are a few days away from unveiling our surprise! :) Today, we feature flowers (not food) on our May 2013 Wallpaper Collection. May brings flowers and most importantly, Mother’s Day! Here in Guatemala, we celebrate Mother’s Day on May 10th, and in the US it’s on the second Sunday of the month. Either way, try to make the entire weekend a celebration for the special mom(s) in your life!

This month we got tons of Foodies Mail asking about different dishes for us to prepare (we are looking for some good solid recipes!), or about places and restaurants they could visit in Guatemala… and mostly just other Guatemalans that are far away from home that just found our local cuisine posts. We are thrilled to know that our fellow chapines are enjoying these little bits of Guatemalan flavors around the globe!

Foodies Freebie: April 2013 Wallpaper Collection

Summer is at its peak in Guatemala, and after relaxing last week we are back with batteries charged… And still working on that surprise that Helga mentioned before. April 2013 Wallpaper Collection features Watermelon.

Watermelon is a vine-like flowering plant originally from southern Africa. Its fruit is also called watermelon and has a smooth exterior rind (green, yellow and sometimes white) and a juicy, sweet interior flesh (usually deep red to pink, but sometimes orange, yellow and even green if not ripe). It is cousins to cucumbers, pumpkins and squash. Watermelon is 92% water and early explorers used watermelons as canteens.

Here are a few tips to pick a good watermelon:

  1. Look the watermelon over. You are looking for a firm, symmetrical watermelon that is free from bruises, cuts or dents.
  2. Lift it up. The watermelon should be heavy for its size. Watermelon is 92% water, most of the weight is water.
  3. Turn it over. The underside of the watermelon should have a creamy yellow spot from where it sat on the ground and ripened in the sun.
