Foodies Freebie: December 2014 Wallpaper Collection

You see the little ornament? Ok, it may not so little on-screen, but it’s almost 2-inches wide. This ornament, or set of ornaments, are those that we don’t stop adding to our christmas tree. My parents got those ornaments years ago when we were kids and we always put them on. And however we’ve upgraded the tree’s lights, ribbons, bows, ornaments, stars or angels we always use them. They remind me of our firsts christmas, with Santa letters that were very specific on my part. I even attached drawings or magazine clippings so Santa would get the presents right. Now, I see my nieces, nephews and TFK’s own little souschef, writing those letters and my heart just melts. Do you have a special ornament in your house? Some of our friends that are already growing their families, have cool traditions, for example, buying one extra special ornament every year to commemorate that christmas.

Red leafSpeaking of christmas trees, ornaments and all joy all around, a few weeks ago we found out that we have direct access to home-visits from Santa. Can you imagine that? Our friends from Dear Santa GT get him to come to your house and visit the kids, take pictures. The works. Santa is a very cool guy with a gorgeous suit! You can head over to their Facebook page or drop them an email to book their services. Between us, he is one of the best looking Santas in town! Make sure that the kids write him a letter so the gifts arrive just in time. Oh, and let them know Helga and Kitty sent you!

Here you go, below you can download the last freebie calendars of the year, for your desktop, laptop, tablet or phone.  We hope you enjoy them!

Foodies Freebie: November 2014 Wallpaper Collection

We know that the lack of recipes from this last month has been unusual, but in a few days we will spill the beans on our main reason. Now, for this month, we have some fall-full recipes coming up. We often try recipes before posting them on the blog. That is for holidays, special occasions or even regular weekdays. Last year we made this great Bourbon Spice Cake, so this year we am going to make it to share it here. Also, Pumpkin Soup, we already have a recipe for it (you can find it here Curry Pumpkin Soup), but we are going to get a second one around here. Not everybody is a fan of coconut or curry. Also, we have been searching for a perfect go-to vanilla white cupcake. We’ve baked…maybe 4 recipes and non are as perfect as we want, or have so many ingredients and steps, it’s crazy. Do you have a favorite recipe you’d like to share with us?

Now, for the November 2014 Wallpaper Collection, you can download them just bellow. If you have a recipe you would like to see featured at The Foodies’ Kitchen, leave it on the comments, contact us through Social Media or email us! We would love to hear your suggestions!

Foodies Freebie: October 2014 Wallpaper Collection

Hello all! Thank you so much for visiting our little blog. We are so happy that in the last month we have been finding more TFK fans! Last month we were invited by Nokiate Restaurant to a tasting of their new menu. The dishes were unbelievable! We shared our experience on Instagram, but you can get all the pictures (and names of the dishes we tried on our Flickr Page. We shared the table with Beatriz and María from GuateDining, Ma. André and David from THY Mazine, Andrea and Mónica from Look Magazine , Stephanie from Stephanie’s Closet and her boyfriend Roberto. We had a great time and an amazing meal!  You can stop by  Nokiate’s FB page and say hi!

Pumpkins! We both have a small centerpiece in each of our homes to celebrate the everything-pumpkin-season. The first thing we celebrate here in Guatemala when October comes around is Children’s Day, which is celebrated on October 1st. In the US it’s an observed date on some states (second Sunday in June). Here, we go all out. Usually, there are plays at schools, special brunches for kids and all sort of fun things. We spent the day with our little sous chef and had a blast.

Also, October is Cancer Awareness month, and we are honored to be asked by Perry to be ambassadors for their program #CintaDeLaEsperanza. You can go to CintaDeLaEsperanza.com and donate your Facebook or Twitter cover picture. Perry and Cinépolis Guatemala will donate for every profile signed up. If you don’t want to donate your wall or you’re not active on social media, you can head out to your nearest supermarket and buy Perry’s turkey sausages, and those funds will go to INCAN, Guatemala’s Institute against Cancer. For those abroad, you can head out to donate to your favorite against cancer organization. We love to help and we encourage you to do so too.

This weekend, Look Magazine and Wunderkeks are hosting the second charity bake sale #WunderBakeSale. Wunderkeks is baking over 700 brownies, 1,500 cookies, 2,400 truffles, 200 pies, 160 cakes, 1,200 cupcakes… a never-ending list of desserts. All of this to raise Q.100,000 for INCAN, Guatemala’s Institute against Cancer that we mentioned above. These funds will go entirely for the fight against breast cancer. The event will be at the KitchenAid Gourmet Center in Paseo Cayalá, on October 4th and 5th, from 10AM to 6PM.

We will be unveiling more surprises we are working on, but in the meantime, you can download the complete October 2014 Wallpaper Collection for your Desktop, iPad, iPad Mini and iPhone. If you have a recipe you would like to see featured at The Foodies’ Kitchen, leave it on the comments, contact us through Social Media or email us! We would love to hear your suggestions!

Foodies Freebie: September 2014 Wallpaper Collection

Where is the time going? Seems just a few days ago that we just began August. For some of our readers, this weekend marks the official end of summer, and coincidentally enough this weekend finally started raining here in Guate (some rain that we have expecting for quite a few months already), so it’s a goodbye-sunny-days for us too. For us it has been a busy month, with some site improvements to make it load faster, more articles and recipes and… a brand new newsletter called Notes from The Foodies Kitchen.

We are launching our first newsletter! We are thrilled with the response of every single one of you. We moved our blog subscribers to the newsletter so you can get a much prettier version of it, instead of the automated newsletter that showed both languages. We will be sending it once a month to avoid inbox overcrowding, and it will include links, news and much more. Expect to receive it within the first 5 days of each month. Have you subscribed yet? If not, you can do so by clicking here or the picture above.

September is the month of Guatemala’s independence day (September 15th), so we love to feature some of our Guatemalan heritage. In this case, this is Pan Dulce, sweet bread that we usually have with our afternoon coffee, a true staple of Guatemalan cuisine. We are looking for a traditional recipe to share with you, specially with those fellow guatemalans who live abroad!

So in the meantime, we have the next best thing to pan dulce… a Pan Dulce wallpaper! You can download the complete September 2014 Wallpaper Collection for your Desktop, iPad, iPad Mini and iPhone (all Retina and iOS7 friendly).

If you have a Guatemalan recipe you would like to see featured here, leave it on the comments, contact us through Social Media or email us! We would love to hear your suggestions!
