Waffle Express Duo: BLT + Ice Cream Sandwich

At The Foodies’ Kitchen we are developing recipes for specific product brands to give you creative ideas for products you might find on your supermarket shelves or frozen food section, such as Waffle Express waffles, a local business that makes delicious Belgian waffles.

Waffle Express frozen waffles are made with natural ingredients and are available in original or gluten-free varieties. Whole grain, orange and poppy-seed flavors are also available upon request. You can find them served at Club Alemán, zone 15 or at the frozen food section of select stores:

  • Puerta del Sol, zone 10
  • Super Verduras, zone 10
  • LeCafé DecoCity, Carr. a El Salvador
  • Fresko, Plaza Varietá zone 16

These waffles are already baked, just pop them in the oven or toaster for an easy breakfast. You can serve them with maple syrup, honey or fruit. Or you can take a more adventurous and sweet road and serve them with banana and Nutella. But, what if you could do so much more with them? Like a quick dinner. Or a snack. See, the beauty of these waffles is that you can create many different dishes with them. This was our inspiration for this Waffle Express Duo: a BLT with Cheddar Cheese, and an Ice Cream Sandwich. You just need a few ingredients to give these waffles a twist and serve a different kind of treat at home! You can find them on Facebook!

Restaurant Week Guatemala 2014

We are delighted to share that Restaurant Week is back! From August 27 until September 10, 21 of the best restaurants in Guatemala City, open their doors with fixed priced menus for lunch and dinner. These menus have different choices for appetizer, entrée and dessert. The prices are much more accessible than their regular price tags. Cities from all over the world are part of this movement, and it’s the third time that Guatemala hosts one of these events. The first time was about a year ago in Guatemala City, and the second one was this last April in Antigua Guatemala.

Beef and Bean Stir-fry

As you know, I am constantly looking for easy and healthy recipes for my weekday cooking so when I find a really good one, you know I’ll want to share it with you. Nowadays, I also need to make sure that the recipes I use at home pack lots of protein and nutrition for my Crossfit loving husband. This Beef and Bean Stir-fry has it all, it’s full of flavor and it was good enough for my 5-year-old to eat without complaints. I used regular white beans for this, because that is what I had at home.

Next time, I would use the larger variety (white kidney beans), just because I think they make the dish look more appealing. Among the ingredients you’ll find orange juice and ginger. These are the ingredients that take this dish to another level, so don’t skip them! Make sure you use natural orange juice, I squeezed a couple of oranges to get what I needed and also used some of the zest for a little extra flavor.

If you have kids at home like me, set their portion aside before adding chili pepper as a final touch.
