Ginger, Lime & Apple Cider Vinegar Detox Tea

As much as we like healthy food, and keeping a clean diet throughout the week, you can’t help but stray from your habits, even if it is just a little, during the holidays. We ate a lot of staple foods from the season, and while we enjoyed every delicious bite, it did leave us feeling bloated and heavy once the new year rang in.

I decided to get right back on track with my healthy weekday menus, and gave myself a little push by drinking this detox tea every morning. I wasn’t sure how it would taste, apple cider vinegar teas are usually made by mixing only water and honey to it. It seemed like a very pungent drink to have first thing in the morning!

I looked up some other ingredients that are beneficial for detoxing your body, so I decided to try this recipe with a few tweaks of my own. Ginger has a ton of benefits, to name a few: it reduces inflamation, aids digestion and improves blood circulation. Cinnamon is said to boost metabolism. Adding lime juice helps the elimination process and the gastrointestinal tract, detoxes the liver and boosts the immune system. Our star ingredient is the apple cider vinegar, (ACV) which should be the raw kind. It helps balance the body’s pH, it aids in the removal of toxins, provides probiotics for intestinal health, it is said to help with weight loss and lower cholesterol levels.

Since lime juice and ACV are acidic, they may damage teeth enamel, so to avoid this you should use a straw (I use my stainless steel straw) and rinse your mouth and brush your teeth immediately after drinking your detox brew.

So, you might want to know how it tastes. Honestly, it’s not bad. It’s tangy and sweet and the added spice from the ginger and cinnamon make it tasty. It is actually enjoyable, and even though it is not a magic potion, over time and consistent intake, all the benefits each of the ingredients offer are worth drinking.

We wish you all a happy and healthy 2019!
