Little Foodies: Ice Cream Mix-Ins

This post is also available in / Esta entrada también está disponible en ESPAÑOL (SPANISH)

It’s summer and what better treat than a creamy scoop of ice cream to cool you down? There are a lot of varieties out there, and you can get pretty much any flavor you can think of at ice cream stores, but it’s a fun idea to make your own special mix at home. All you need to do is soften your favorite ice cream flavor, mix in the items you want, and return to the freezer so it reaches your preferred consistency.

Some of the things you can choose from are dried fruits, chopped cake, cookies, candies, candy bar, chocolate, cereal, fresh fruit.  As a base, you can use plain vanilla, chocolate, or any of your favorite flavors.

Kids will enjoy choosing the ingredients to add in, and they can help stir them in. They’ll love tasting their creations later!  When summer days are here, you don’t want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen, so this is the perfect way to make a special treat with your kids that they can share with their family after a day out in the sun!

Our recommendation is that you don’t let the ice cream melt too much, just enough for you to be able to mix in the chopped ingredients. Otherwise, all the bits and pieces will sink to the bottom.
