Happy Hour: Glenmorangie Orange Highball

Glenmorangie The Original is a single malt that has aged 10 years in American white oak bourbon barrels. Its notes on the palate are medium-bodied and somewhat oily. It is a sweet whiskey, which characterizes the Glenmorangie line, with notes of vanilla, citrus, peach, and flowers. Its finish on the palate is medium with lingering sweet notes.

This whisky can be used for cocktails, and on this occasion, we prepared a highball version that includes fresh orange juice, tonic, and mineral water. We recommend that you use natural orange juice, that is, freshly squeezed from Navel oranges. Commercial orange juice just doesn’t taste the same and can ruin the taste of your cocktail.

Happy Hour: Orange Highball

The ingredients are simple but combining them results in a refreshing highball. We don’t usually see tonic mixed with whisky, we are used to seeing this combination in gin cocktails. The dry and bitter profile of the tonic mixes perfectly with the sweetness of the whiskey and the result is perfectly balanced and very fresh.

You can find Glenmorangie The Original and a variety of Fever Tree tonics, Perrier mineral water at Vinoteca stores.

Glenmorangie Orange Highball

Yields: 1 cocktail

Ingredients:
2 oz. Glenmorangie The Original whisky
half of a Navel orange
2 oz. Fever Tree tonic water
2 oz. Perrier original mineral water

Direction:

  1. Juice the half orange.
  2. Fill a highball glass with ice. Pour all the ingredients: orange juice, whisky, tonic water, and carbonated mineral water.
  3. Garnish with an orange wedge.
