Chicken and Washington Apple Burgers
This post is also available in ESPAÑOL (SPANISH)
There’s something unexpectedly fun about adding apples to a savory dish especially when they tuck themselves right into a juicy chicken burger. Gala Washington Apples bring a gentle sweetness and a tender crunch that melts beautifully into the patties as they cook, keeping everything moist and flavorful. Paired with herbs, a touch of maple syrup, and the brightness of grated onion, these burgers are the kind of recipe that feels simple but special… the kind you make once and immediately add to your rotation. We love the combination of ingredients that gives this chicken burger a fall twist.
Melted cheese, crisp butter lettuce, thin apple slices for extra crunch, and a little red onion to round it all out. These chicken burgers are cozy and satisfying — perfect for nights when you want comfort without heaviness. They also make a gorgeous option for casual get-togethers, because everyone loves a twist on a classic… especially one where apples get to shine.

Chicken and Washington Apple Burgers
Makes 4 burgers
Ingredients:
1 lb. ground chicken (or ground pork)
¼ cup finely diced Gala Washington Apples
¼ cup chopped spinach
2 tablespoons quick-cooking oats
2 teaspoons maple syrup
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1½ teaspoons thyme
1 teaspoon rosemary
1–2 tablespoons grated onion (about ¼ small onion, grated finely)
½ teaspoon salt
Olive oil for cooking
4 slices of cheese (cheddar, gouda or swiss)
To build the burger:
4 hamburger buns
butter lettuce
thinly sliced Gala Washington Apples
Thinly sliced red onion
Directions:
- In a medium bowl, combine all ingredients until just mixed — don’t overwork the mixture or it’ll get dense.
- Form into 6–7 small patties.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and drizzle with olive oil.
- Cook the patties for 5–6 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F / 74°C.
- Add cheese on top (cheddar, gouda, or even Swiss melt beautifully) and let it sit
for a minute until melty. - Remove from the skillet and start building your burgers by slicing the burger
bun in half (we recommend toasting the cut sides on the skillet used to make
the burgers)— add butter lettuce on the bottom half, place the cooked pattie on
top, then the sliced apples and onions. Spread mayonnaise and Dijon mustard
on the top half and serve.
