Sticky Asian BBQ Pork Tenderloin
This post is also available in ESPAÑOL (SPANISH)
This is the kind of recipe that rewards a little planning: an overnight marinade, bake, and a sticky glaze that turns the pork glossy, tender, and irresistible.
The pork marinates overnight in a savory-sweet mixture that infuses it with flavor all the way through, then finishes in the oven where it slowly caramelizes as it bakes. Brushing it with a blend of the reserved marinade and your favorite store barbecue sauce creates a glossy, sticky coating that deepens as it cooks, giving you tender meat with that irresistible balance of salty, sweet, and umami.
We love serving this pork sliced and paired with something fresh and crunchy to balance the richness, like a cabbage and apple slaw, adding crisp texture and a touch of acidity. It also works beautifully with steamed rice, coconut rice, or tucked into soft buns or lettuce cups for a more casual meal. Whether you serve it as a simple weeknight dinner or as part of a relaxed gathering, this is one of those recipes that disappears fast and always gets asked for again.

Sticky Asian BBQ Pork Tenderloin
Makes 6 portions
Ingredients:
1 pork tenderloin (about 2 lbs)
¼ cup hoisin sauce
¼ cup soy sauce
¼ cup red wine
2 garlic cloves, minced
½ tbsp sugar
⅛ tsp cinnamon
⅛ tsp ground coriander
2 whole cloves, or 1 pinch powdered clove
fresh black pepper to taste
½ cup store bought BBQ sauce
Preparation:
- Combine hoisin sauce, soy sauce, red wine, garlic, sugar, cinnamon, coriander and clove in a resealable bag together with the pork and marinate overnight in the refrigerator.
- Preheat oven to 400F
- Remove the pork from the marinade (reserving the marinade, which will be part of the sauce) and dry off with paper towels, then place on baking dish that has been sprayed with cooking oil or covered with aluminum foil to help with wash up later.
- Cook the pork in the oven for 30 min.
- Pour the marinade into a small pot and bring to a boil for 5 minutes, turn the heat to low and let it simmer for another 5 minutes. Add ½ cup of BBQ sauce and stir to combine. Remove from the heat.
- After 30 minutes, take the pork out of the oven and baste with the BBQ mixture. Return to the oven for another 15 minutes, remove and baste again. Bake for another 15 minutes or until the temperature reaches 140F. Remove from the oven.
- Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with sauce on the side.
