Happy Hour: Pear Vanilla Gin Fizz

This post is also available in / Esta entrada también está disponible en ESPAÑOL (SPANISH)

We have prepared several cocktails for our Happy Hour section, and we can safely say this is one of our favorites. The mix of pear, vanilla, and cinnamon gives it a flavor profile that is ideal for Holiday parties. Simply delicious!

We usually use simple sugar syrup to prepare our cocktails, but this time we added grated pear to create an infusion. You can prepare it up to 3 days in advance, keeping it in the refrigerator.

The mixture includes gin, we used Tanqueray No. Ten, the pear syrup, and a top-up of seltzer. Do not skip the pear slices for garnish and mix sugar and cinnamon to decorate the glass rim. When you near it to your nose, it smells like baked cookies!

You can moisten the edge of the glass with water so that the sugar sticks, but it is better if you use a little of the pear syrup.

Pear Vanilla Gin Fizz

Makes 1 drink
Adapted from Short Girl Tall Order

Ingredients, for the pear syrup:
1 cup shredded pears
½ cup sugar
½ cup water
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Ingredients, for the cocktail:
1 ½ oz. Tanqueray gin
2 oz. pear syrup
soda, for topping
thin pear slices, for garnish

For the glass rim:
sugar
cinnamon (to taste)

Preparation, for the pear syrup:

  1. Shred the pears, then add them along with sugar and water to a small saucepan and bring the mix to a boil over medium heat. Reduce to a simmer and cook for about 5 to 8 minutes until the liquid turns golden color and the pears break down. Remove the mix from the heat and strain the syrup into a container. Add the vanilla extract and wait until it cools down to use.
  2. Prepare the sugar rim glasses. Fill a shallow plate with sugar mixed with a little cinnamon, quickly dip the rim of the cocktail with water or a bit of pear syrup and dip it in the sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes before mixing the drinks.
  3. For the drink, add 1 ½-oz. of Tanqueray gin, 2 tablespoons of the pear syrup to a short glass and mix.
  4. Add ice and top with soda.
  5. For decoration, slice pears thinly with a mandolin to add as a final decore to the drink.
