Instant Pot Cuban Beans

This post is also available in / Esta entrada también está disponible en ESPAÑOL (SPANISH)

These Cuban beans recipe was part of our #mealprep weekly rotation. We love our Instant Pot and recommend you get it for your home. It’s a lifesaver when you are short of time, you just need to add all the ingredients and set the time. Do take into account that it takes the pot about 30 minutes to come to pressure, and then the time needed to make the recipe starts counting.

Personally, I always forget to soak the beans before cooking them. So I just add them to the pot and set the pressure cooker function on HIGH and cook for 25 minutes. I allow a natural release for 10-15 minutes and then manually release the remaining pressure.

If you do soak your beans, the pressure cooking time is much less, but I haven’t tried this method yet. According to a few recipes we’ve read, it takes only 9 minutes on HIGH-pressure cooking function, and you allow 20 minutes of natural release.

If you prefer to use a slow cooker, add everything to your pot except for the salt. Cook for 3-4 hours on High and 7-8 hours on Low.

The spice that really makes this dish is the powdered cumin, so don’t skip it. You can add other spices such as chili powder if you like. We like how simple and budget-friendly recipes such as this one can pack in so much flavor and be so comforting. We hope you’ll give it a try!
