Happy Hour: Sangrita & Tequila

This post is also available in / Esta entrada también está disponible en ESPAÑOL (SPANISH)

Sangrita is a tequila accompaniment, not a chaser. Tequila is really meant to be sipped, you shouldn’t have to shoot it down in one gulp, followed by a chaser (usually salt and lime), but you need to choose a good quality tequila, such as Herradura Ultra or Don Julio 70, both aged.

What should you look for to recognize a good tequila is, first of all you shouldn’t suffer when you drink it! good tequila can be enjoyed. Look for reposado or añejo, and that the label reads 100% agave, or blue agave. You will notice a world of difference…and next day too.

Sangrita

This is one of our favorite ways to drink this liquor, you take one sip of tequila followed by a sip of sangrita, which is made out of tomato juice, and orange juice as a base. You can add tabasco, or any other hot sauce you prefer.  This recipe makes 12 oz of sangrita, which is enough for quite a few rounds.  Let us know if you try it!

¡Salud!
